New Balance and Jabra are at CES this year to announce a new partnership and the unveiling of two new gadgets: the RunIQ smartwatch and the PaceIQ wireless earbuds. Each is designed with fitness first and foremost, and have a number of features for you to get the most out of your routine.
While some are lamenting the death of smartwatches, New Balance has entered the game with its new RunIQ smartwatch. It features a built-in GPS, heart rate monitor, lap button, interval capability, and is even waterproof up to 5 ATM (which should cover rain, splashing, showering, and some surface swimming. The watch will also be paired with the New Balance Global Run Club and is powered by Strava, the social network for athletes.
As far as other, more basic, smartwatch functionalities it's a little threadbare. You'll be able to sync, store, and listen to Google Play music from an Android phone as well as get notifications via WiFi or Bluetooth. They're also claiming up to 24 hours of battery life with typical use or 5 hours of continuous use. Which sounds pretty impressive—if it's true. But I'd take that with a big ol' grain of salt if I were you.
The RunIQ is available for pre-order at newbalance.com and will hit retail stores on February 1st at a price of $299.99.
Built to match the RunIQ, the PaceIQ wireless sports earbuds are the second half of this one-two punch partnership. They feature a dedicated "Sports Button" that puts a trainer in your ear with real-time performance updates against your goals. If you've ever needed that extra kick in the pants while you're out running, it sounds like this might be the answer you've been waiting for.
The PaceIQ are also available for pre-order now at newbalance.com and will hit retail stores on February 1st for a price of $109.99.
